“Life’s Messy, Live Happy” by Cy Wakeman - 3 Questions to Find Clarity

In this episode, I dig into Cy Wakeman’s thoughtful questions that help you get into highest self and out of lowest self.

Key Points

  • Cy writes Three Questions to Find Clarity

    • 1) What do I know for sure?

    • 2) How can I help?

    • 3) What would great look like in this situation?

  • Often times we tell ourselves stories — extreme stories about our situation that aren’t truly reflective of reality.

  • Cy’s questions help us toggle from a shame spiral or a negative mindset to a curiosity mindsite.

  • When you’re being curious and asking questions, you cannot remain in your lowest self. Thoughtful questions always toggle you upward.

Practical Application of the 3 Questions

  • Write these 3 questions out on a piece of paper, in your planner/journal, or in the notes section of your phone.

  • Take some time to answer these questions — essentially brain dump (thoughtfully using that curiosity mindset). This can be in bullet points, full sentence form, whatever. Don’t get too picky on the format.

  • After you’ve written your thoughts, put them away for a bit. I find that overnight or even a few hours for me to step away from the emotional state I was in while writing helps provide additional perspective.

  • Come back to your thoughts when you’re ready, and see if they still ring true. Do you see any “ego” in your thoughts that you can remove or weed out from what you’ve written?

  • Once you’ve answered the questions, created some space and time from them, revisited them with humble inquiry, then you can move forward in taking action. Sometimes that’s just sitting and “being” with your answers. Sometimes it means forgiving yourself, forgiving others, taking meaningful action to do what “great looks like,” etc.

Announcements!

  • My YouTube channel hit 500 subscribers recently; therefore, I’m preparing for a new weekly video/podcast series that feels like you’re coming along with me on this leadership development journey.

  • There will be:

    • Book Club with Kayla - I’ll be sharing my favorite leadership, personal, or professional development books and breaking down the lessons in bite sides bits you can take action on.

    • Feedback Friday - Ask me your leadership questions, and I’ll answer those in a video/podcast episode each Friday!

    • Skill Building Saturday - I will teach on a new leadership skill that expands off of the book or the feedback from earlier in the week. Whether it’s a tangible method or template or a mindset skill, you’ll have something you can try and practice in the upcoming week to improve your leadership.

  • Submit any books you’d like to see me review as well as your questions for Feedback Friday via email - Kayla@KFAConsulting.org.
